Terry Whye + Mike Ramina

Terry Whye:
Bio Statement:
Terry Whye has been making sculpture and pots in her current rural Maryland studio, Whye Clay Works, since 1985. Whye's high-fired ceramics are exhibited regionally and nationally. WCW is also a teaching studio and Terry is a recipient of an Artist In Education Grant by MD Arts Council. Whye is known for her figurative sculptures and platters and a wide range of functional pottery. Her study of the Sogetsu School of Ikebana has provided the inspiration for creating containers for flower arrangers.

Artist statement: La Brea is part of a figurative series that springs from the realm of the unconscious dream world. I am intrigued by the possibilities of a cascading bonsai gracing the landscape of an abundant great motheršs body and symbolizing the energy systems of the figure's heart center. My own heart is literally aching from the recent deaths of my father and a treasured woman friend/mentor. Because I believe in the transformative healing power of clay, I have created an image that springs forth directly from dream images and my own heart. The process and product both reflect and inform my daily life.
