Wood-Kiln Opening Sale and Workshops

Friday, August 27th thru Sunday, August 29th

Ron Lang, Sharon Edwards-Russell and guest artist Jim Doyle of Nature’s Way Nursery at our ceramic studio in Reedsville, PA. (Approximately 65 miles / 70 minutes West of Harrisburg). Hundreds of unique bonsai related containers will be on sale on site as we unload beginning at 10:00 AM on Saturday. A variety of shapes, styles and sizes including thrown forms round, oval and cascade as well as hand-built rectangles, cascades and Kusamono containers will be available. If you would like to make sure we have exactly what you need, please place an order in advance or take your chances at the opening.

Advance orders for pots in this kiln must be emailed to ronlangpots@comcast.net by July 10th, 2010.

Saturday, August 28th

  • 8:30 AM – Onsite Registration for Workshops. Coffee, tea and danish
  • 9:00 AM to Noon - Kiln Opening and Sale
    Fee: $50.00 Advanced Registration Fee required to participate by August 15.
Our 80 cubic foot wood-fired kiln, loaded with 100+ bonsai containers will have been fired and cooled for unloading on August 28th. Come help unload the kiln and see the results of the firing with us for the first time. Please register by August 15th. Your advance registration fee will be applied to your pottery purchases.

  • Pots not purchased by registered buyers will be available for all to purchase after 4:00 PM on Saturday and throughout the morning on Sunday.
  • Noon Lunch Break – Free to participants.
 
  • 1:30 PM – 4 PM - Miniature Landscape (Saikei) Planting Workshop with Jim Doyle  (10 participants)
  • ‘Our noblest attempt appeals to the intellect as well as to the emotions.’
  • Fee:  $110 onsite / $90 if advance registration is received by August 15th  (Observers:  $20)
  • Miniature Saikei landscapes are challenging and fun.  Join Jim in creating a composition of a rare type of blind (non-blooming) Japanese azalea (var. ‘sakamotoi komatsu’) rocks, mosses and other selected plants in a special Lang pot.  All materials provided.  BYO moss.
 

Sunday, August 29th

  • 9:00 AM – Noon - Bonsai Pottery Workshop (limit: 15 participants)
   

Fee:  $110 onsite / $90 if advance registration is received by August 15th  (Observers:  $20)
Make your own hand-built Saikei and accent containers! Instruction and demonstrations from Ron and Sharon will guide you through the making of hand-built basic ceramic containers for Saikei, bonsai and accent plants.  Participants will make various styles of tray and slab forms for Saikei, Kusamono and accent pots using hand-building and slab methods.  Make up to 3 pieces.Arrangements to collect fired work will be made. If Packing and Shipping is requested, fees will be extrabut at cost. An additional charge of $5.00 per pot if you would like glazes on your pots.  Get your hands
dirty!  Take this opportunity to design and build your own personal Saikeii and accent pots.
